Sunset cruising from Balatonfüred: 7 beautiful routes

A sunset cruise is one of Lake Balaton's most timeless experiences. From Balatonfüred you can cover several very different routes within 2–4 hours — here are seven of our favourites.

1. Tihany's silhouette from the middle of the lake

We head west of Füred out onto the centre line of the lake and turn towards Tihany. The sun sets exactly behind the Abbey — the classic postcard shot. Ideal for a 2‑hour program, for couples.

2. Lavender Bay and quiet anchoring

On the eastern side of the Tihany peninsula we anchor in a wind‑sheltered bay. Silence, warm water and the sun's golden disc on the lake. Champagne, music, no hurry.

3. Sunset cruising towards the southern shore

For those who want a slightly longer cruise (3–4 hours) we recommend crossing towards Balatonföldvár or Zamárdi. The sun goes down behind us while, turning east, the lights of the Füred shore begin to light up.

4. The Abbey from the water in golden‑hour light

Setting off an hour before sunset, we cruise up the eastern side of the Tihany peninsula. The warm sidelight makes the guests on deck look almost like a painting — a favourite route for wedding and engagement shoots too.

5. Stargazing on the open water

We stay out on the lake for another 30–45 minutes after sunset. Away from city lights the Milky Way appears, and the boat's gentle rocking is an experience you simply can't get from shore. A warm blanket is a must.

6. Romantic "dinner cruise" off Füred

A shorter, intimate route: 1.5–2 hours cruising off the Füred shore while we serve dinner on deck. Perfect for anniversaries, first dates or a surprise dinner.

7. Group sunset BBQ

We grill at anchor during the sunset — smoke, fresh fish, Balaton wine and the sun leaning over the water. A classic for groups of friends and smaller corporate gatherings.

Timing and practical tips

• Set off 2 hours before sunset — so the whole golden hour happens on board.
• Bring a jumper or light jacket; it cools fast over the water.
• Put your phone on silent and hand the camera to the captain for a group photo.
• Book ahead — in season sunset slots sell out first.
